What happens in a private lesson?
The teacher uses verbal explanation and places his/her hands gently on the pupil’s neck, shoulders, back, feet and so on, not in a painful way. The teacher hands convey a specific quality of muscle tone which helps pupils to release unwanted tensions, become more aware of themselves, better aligned and balanced. Each class changes depending on the needs of the pupil and there is always a 20min table turn where the pupil rests in a semi-supine position and lengthens the spine to get back it’s whole length and height.
There are no short cuts to adapt new conditions so the pupil should expect to start with 6 lessons.
It’s important to understand that pupils must work on themselves in their daily activities. They must continuously apply or practise what they have learned in the lessons.
Through the lessons the pupils develop the good habit of lying down in a semi-supine position
every day since this isn’t less important than make up, shaving, having a bath…etc
“The Alexander Technique can be taught in
groups through games and theory and what one achieves is a taste of awareness of oneself but the quality can not be a substitute for
a one to one lesson”.
